Bageshwar


    The holy town of Bageshwar is the place that can liberate one from the cycle of life
 and death as told in the puranas. The sacred temple of Baghnath, Lord Shiva attracts
devotees from far and wide. Especially on ‘Shivratri’ festival the rush has to be seen
to be believed. This beautiful town lies between the Gomati River and Saryu River.
The land attracts spiritual people like magnet owing to its mystical hills. Bageshwar not
only attracts the spiritual minds but also beauty lovers like trekkers alike. The place is
a trekker’s paradise which was pioneered by AdiShankaracharya who trekked through
these routes in 8 th century.Bageshwar is the entry point to trekking routes like Pindari,
Kafni and Sundrdunga glaciers.

How to reach Bageshwar
Airport- Nearest being Pant Nagar 206 km.
Train- Kathgodam is 190 km far from Bageshwar.
Road-Taxis are available from Almora 90km, Nainital 137km and kathgodam 180km.

What to see in Bageshwar
Baghnath temple- This large temple with conical towers is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Temple was built by Kumaon King “Laxmi Chand” in 1450 AD. The temple houses
various deities in its complex. The temple of Bharav, Durga temple,  Kalika temple
Ganga mai temple and Hanuman temple. The temple has a rustic look with trees
planted around it.
Chandika Temple- Dedicated to goddess Chandika ,the temple is near to
Bageshwar temple.
GauriUdiyar - A large cave with idols of Lord Shiva.
Shikhar Temple – This temple on Shikharmountain is dedicated to Lord Mool
Narayan.
Pindari glacier – The trek route follows the Pindar river to its source on the
 glacier.
